Marche - the Marshes - is located half-way down Italy's eastern coast, bordered by the Adriatic Sea in the east and the Sibilini Mountains in the west, and surrounded by the Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo regions.
Most of the region is hilly, producing an attractive, undulating rolling landscape, which culminates in more mountainous terrain in the west of the region - the Sibilini Mountains - a popular winter ski resort. In the east, much of the 180 kilometre Adriatic coastline - about 112 miles - is almost one continuous sandy beach, interrupted occassionally by rocky outcrops and cliffs.

Ancona, the regional capital of Le Marche, is situated on the Adriatic coast, and is the home of Falconara International Airport, which has air links with most of Europe and the UK. Marche is also home to several medieval, fortified, hilltop towns, like Cingoli, Trovigianno and Macerata, world renowned for its annual open-air opera festival held during July and August each year.
The region is blessed with delightful beaches, areas of historical importance, cultural attractions, beautiful scenery and natural phenomena like the Frasassi Caves. And with an average summer temperature around the 27-28°C level - 80-82°F - the idyllic surroundings are matched with idyllic weather.
